Classic Sugar Cookies


Did you think we would leave you hanging after telling you to use our scrumptiously Delightful Buttercream Frosting on our classic sugar cookies yesterday?  No way! You are going to love these cookies and they are sure to be a new-found classic in your home!  Hey the weekend is young–make these cookies tomorrow with the kids–they will love rolling out the dough and cutting out the shapes.

This recipe is simple enough that the whole family can help.  Handed down through several generations, the ingredients have been tried over and over again and always yields a wonderful cookie. Pair this Classic Sugar Cookie recipe with the Delightful Buttercream Frosting to really wow a crowd (or be crowned the greatest mom ever by your kids)!

Classic Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 1/2 cup sifted enriched flour
  • 2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Instructions

  • Cream butter.
  • Add sugar gradually, creaming until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
  • Mix in vanilla
  • Sift together dry ingredients and add gradually to creamed mixture.
  • Refrigerate 3–4 hours.
  • On well-floured surface, roll to 1/4–1/8 inch. Cut into shapes.
  • Bake on ungreased cookie sheet(s) at 375 degrees for 6–8 minutes.
  • Cool slightly on cookie sheet and remove.

Notes

Option: Dough substitute if short on time—2 (16.5 oz.) pkgs. Pillsbury sugar cookie dough. Follow directions on package for cooking.
