I was given the opportunity to take my two younger children to Gymboree Play and Music at our local location to check out the programs and share our experience with all of you.
We decided to do a month of art classes since my kids love art and they could both attend the same class. Gymboree classes are generally split by age groups to target the interests and needs of children based on their age.
The art program is great for a wider age range since there is a lot of creativity and freedom in the art process. My kids, 4 and 2, both loved the class and were able to create on their level. We started each class with a warm-up activity where the kids explored paint or play dough without instruction. Then we continued to the themed art project. There were at least two projects based around the theme that the kids participated in with a story and small snack in between. Some of the themes were the sea, 3-D structures, and animals.
There was a wide variety of art medium to work with during the month long session. My kids made and created with flour dough, pipe cleaners, tissue paper, paint, crayons, markers, puff balls, and may other art supplies. They also explored at the water table with some of the activities. At the end of class the teacher would lead the kids in a cute little closing song and then they would get stamps on their hands and belly. Both of kiddos told me the belly stamp at the end was their favorite part of class.
I think that the program is very well rounded and extremely enjoyable for the kids. I know my kids looked forward to Thursdays for ‘art class’ each week. The teachers are very happy and energetic and seem to really enjoy interacting with the kids. The center itself is very inviting. My kids loved getting the class early and playing on all of the fun climbing toys and large motor equipment.
Gymboree offers lots of other classes on top of art including music, baby and me, and play and learn. Free play is included with any of the classes that you enroll in.
