Disney’s John Carter Movie Review

I was invited to attend one of the pre-screenings of the new Disney movie John Carter that was just released yesterday.  I really had not heard anything about it and did not know what to expect so I watched   It seemed like it would be interesting and a fun date night so my husband and I decided to go.

I love to discuss and dissect a movie after I watch it and my sweet husband always indulges me.  This time it was extra fun because I knew I was going to get to share my review (not in full detail-no spoilers) with all of you.  So we decided this was kind of like Star Wars meets Jumper, but different.  I know that is about as clear as mud, but once you see the movie you will understand where I am coming from.  It was very balanced with enough action scenes for my husband to be entertained and a good love story to keep me happy.  There was a lot of good clean humor in the movie also which we really enjoyed.  The acting is great and the special effects are of course amazing.  I would expect nothing less than the best from Disney.

I would say that if you feel comfortable letting your kids see Star Wars that you would be okay with them seeing this movie.  There is some violence with wars going on and fight scenes, mostly between aliens and humans, and I did notice some language at the first of the movie.  I really wish that cursing was totally cut out of movies that are targeted for families.  There really is no need for them to use offensive language. Language is so powerful and I do think it is a shame that every PG-13 gets one “big” curse word before it is deemed R rated.  This film can stand on its own without the swearing, but thankfully it is very minimal.  (Okay I will get off of my soapbox.)  Hopefully that will help you if you are trying to decide to take the whole family or just go out for a date night.

I do have to mention that we saw this movie in 3D and it was pretty cool, but I did not feel that this is a must see in the 3D theater.  There were a lot of scenes that you did feel like you were a part of because of the 3D effect and then some parts just seemed like we were watching a normal 2D version.  All I am saying is if you don’t want to shell out the extra money to watch it in 3D you are still going to like the 2D version.

If you go see the movie I would love to hear your comments and thoughts on it below!
