It’s that back to school time, and as a former teacher, I can’t help but want to go out and buy notebooks, markers, glue, pencils! I always loved stocking up on supplies. And I loved to find cool prizes for my students too!


A few weeks ago, I was sent the COOLEST school supplies item ever!! Smencils and Smens from ! Now, pens and pencils are about the most boring and basic school supply. But The Smencil Company has turned them into somehing very fun!

Smencils and Smens are gourmet scented pens and pencils! What kid would not want to have a couple of these in their bag? I bet they’d be great for trading with friends too!

Smencils and Smens come in TEN delicious scents! I was amazed at how true-to-life the scents were – I was getting hungry just testing them all out.

Smencils come in regular graphite or colored pencils. Smens come in black ink.

How are they made? By wrapping sheets of newspaper around a graphite core until they achieve the desired thickness. Then they’re hardened – allowing them to be sharpened just like wood pencils. After a soak in gourmet liquid scents (made by an award winning fragrance company), they are dried, labeled, and eraser-ed!   

And they are better for the environment. Each Smencil or Smen is made from 100% recycled newspapers and biodegradeable plastics. They come in individual corn-based biodegradeable freshness tubes, so they retain their scent for a long time!


You should consider getting a few sets of Smencils and Smens for your kiddos when they head off on the big yellow school bus this fall! Or gift a set to a teacher so she can have fun correcting papers, or hand them out to students as prizes!
